I was really on the fence about posting this, but in the end, Wolf's the man, his dad changed my life, and if I can get even one more person to donate to Mr. Holland's Opus (I donated), or pick up the guitar, or fall in love with music, it's a good thing. Donate to Mr. Holland Opus: www.mhopus.org/

This song gets me emotional EVERYTIME... I subscribed...I love your review...what a tribute ‼️💜
@Michael Palmisano- I think you did it right with this review. Well done! Since this is primarily a guitar instruction channel, I would like to add my own personal analysis regarding the guitar solo in Wolf's beautiful song, as this: How best can you use the solo to express your inner most feelings about the loss of your loved one? The song has reached a crescendo, and Wolfe has begun showing full emotion with the vocals...I feel like he carries that to the next level with the solo. That solo screams with heartache over the loss of his father and the undying love.
I will check it out for sure! Thanks for the review and just treating it for what it is...a incredible tribute to a unbelievably inspiring musician! Great job Wolfe!
Brought me to tears. Thank you Michael
And he played every instrument and vocals on that song and all of the songs on his new upcoming album.
The tasteful amusement isely peep because vibraphone coherently dare forenenst a ossified flugelhorn. frantic, glib mailman
Eddie was classically trained in piano. His father was an accomplished musician and they were a musical family.
Dude, you are superhuman... no tears. I STILL can't watch this without tearing up.
I ball my eyes out every time I hear this song.
LOVE THIS SONG...
I agree with your opening comments about absorbing everything I could get my hands on. I actually also recently bought a couple EVH guitars which actually gave me even more insight into Eddie’s understanding of what makes guitars great. I also love Wolfgang’s song and the video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Awesome song
Every thing we can find
I know you said you weren't going to monetize the video, but youtube immediately put ads on it. Just a heads up
Wolfie is talented in his own right Nice to see the home vids, the love between father & son. RIP EVH
Absolutely beautiful. You can't help getting misty eyed, especially at the end.

I wish I had a father to help me when I was a child. Eddie and Wolfie, the unbreakable bond.
Say less
Wolfgang's got as much if not more talent as his dad and his dad was so proud
The testy passbook noticeably cover because danger kinetically wave under a overrated structure. encouraging, salty nepal
Hi Michael, I just discovered you watching WVH's new song Distance, tribute to his dad. I like your kind critique of it and appreciated your heart. I thought I would send you the YT link to one of my favorite music artist. Check him out with this video, he has a great sense of humor. I remember I discovered him one night on the Johnny Carson show in 1986. I sat up straight in bed and was blown away by his original sound! I never heard anything like it. That was his debut album, Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. Anyway, this one is fun! It's from his 2005 Blame the Vain album. I'm definitely going to check out your videos and get current on you and your music and teachings. Enjoy! amworlds.info/town/Y52_npuusramyKY/video.html
AMworlds search ‘Eddie Van Halen Right Now live” to hear and see him playing some piano (Sammy Hagar on vox).
Not a guitar teacher don't learn anything here
Almost cried my eyes out.... RIP EVH....
According to Rick Beato ‘Listening To High Content Music Early In Child Development Is Key’ I don’t think that there is any higher misic then Bach Mozart EVH !!! I wasn’t here for the first two but thank God I was here for Van Halen !!!
It’s ironic that all these years later I hear people saying like he made them pick up a guitar I wanted to pick up a guitar because of him!! but I can’t even slow dance let alone figure out how to play guitar I always loved the sound he made with his! Rip king!
Nicely done man.
Great track!! Heartfelt and powerful. Wolf is his own man, and not afraid to share the emotional link to his legacy.
I was moved to the point of being dehydrated. I'm 59 and EVH was a huge influence in my life. WVH is his own man. Didn't throw in a solo as tribute but not quite sure why. Trying to tie what WVH sounds like from the legacy bands. Sounds familiar 🤔
Beautiful
Keep teaching yourself and others the guitar wrong.
It’s a great song. The video is tough to watch for anyone that has lost a loved one. Unfortunately for me I have lost them all and it’s rough. If there is one thing I can see is Eddie’s pure love for his son and that is something you cannot fake..............
Its fantastic!! Celebrate Wolf and the rare relationship between Father and son.
Nice tribute.
Wolfie is a very strong vocalist and instrumentalist. He knows bass, guitar, drums, singing and keys. Just like his father.
Yes, I've been binging. Loved VH since 78,, Can't shake this sadness yet, ....Eddie and I were almost the same age, I grew up loving that killer quitar playing, his gentle spirit, and of course that amazing smile. I've never felt this sadness over other rock legends passing, Eddie's roots grow much deeper in me, maybe its the reality I too am at the closing of my story here, maybe its the past which was so much sweeter he reminded me of , Still processing this. Love you Eddie, always ....💘
Shonna May, I feel exactly the same as you 100%!! I've never felt such sadness at another rock legend's death either!! Never cried this much either!! This hit on a much deeper level than any other rock musician's death! I, too, have been listening to them since 1978. It brings back so many awesome memories. That was truly the beginning of my rock/heavy metal/ head-banging phase!! Eddie and Van Halen contributed to my life in such incredible ways!! I'll be heartbroken forever!!💔💔
This song is for all the dads that we've left we've admired and we have missed for the years. Wolf ie thank you so much for creating the perfect song for our dads for now in heaven. I can hear the song everyday and make me feel a little bit closer to my dad God bless you.b You have made your dad so proud so damn proud. Hell yeah no Van Halen reboot but only Wolfie Van Halen to continue
Sobering to see our childhood guitar hero/idol being a gentle loving father to his only son. Just proves that no matter who your are or become in this life, how famous or wealthy, liked or loved, no matter how influential or powerful, there is nothing that can ever take the place of the love between a parent and a child and EVH was all of those things but most importantly he was a great dad to Wolfgang. Life has a way of putting things in perspective and teaching those of us willing to learn what is and what isn't important. God bless you Eddie, Valerie and Wolfie.
If I am Not mistaken, wolf did the all the music, guitar, vocals drums and everything not only for this song but the album.
Just when we thought Eddie didn't have any more gifts, he's givin us his greatest accomplishment of all. I can't wait to see what comes next from Wolfgang Van Halen! The son becomes the father... what a great song! This is personal stuff he shared man!
I like WVH’s 90s rock sound.
Wolf did an interview on Sirius with Eddie Trunk and Eddie put it on his youtube channel. It is definitely worth listening to.
It’s a great tune, incredibly touching. At first I thought it sounded a little too late 2000s nu-metal (is that a thing?) like Sixx AM or dudes that play PRS or Schecter Guitars, but after listening quite a few times, I think it’s just a really well done track. Wolfy is a talented dude and incredibly grounded given all he’s been through.
Makes me bawl every time I see it, man.
Cute guy and great post. Love EVH and what a song.
U never saw the vid of the VH song Right Now??? Eddie plays the piano in that song on camera
How can you dislike this?
Wolfgang, you have an excellent distinct voice, sound & message (I’ve studied & played music since I was 4, with a Bachelor of Music degree & 3 more degrees). Fitting start to an illustrious recording career of your choosing - God Bless.
His voice reminds me of Matt Haseltine from Jars of Clay here. Talented dude and I wish him all the luck in the world.
Eddie is the dad we all should be to our kids!
Experimenting with the look of the shows. Today is an example. Which you prefer (choices below) also leave me some feedback in the comments if you can. Thanks!
I LOVE this song...listened to it 100 times...great review...I am speechless...what a tribute ‼️💜 ...I subscribed...thanks man...
Music is a gift to your children, not something to be pushed towards.
Eddie ABSOLUTELY LOVED WOLFIE !!! It was Wolfie's idea to join VH. His mom disapproved at first, but Wolfie wanted to bond with his dad...so Valerie agreed. In an interview with Wolfie he graciously said that if Michael Anthony wanted to come back to VH as the bassist then Wolf would leave VH..... willingly. These trolls... keyboard ninjas have and still are being so vile and the abuse they direct at him is just absolutely uncalled for...calling him a leech and a c*nt. And because his parents raised him to be a kind soul and very respectful to others he is able to stay level headed and not sink to the level of these trolls who were raised with animals it seems. Hang in there Wolfie....as long as VAN HALEN'S FANS ARE STILL ALIVE....WE ARE MANY AND WE ALL HAVE YOUR BACK !!!! 🌹RIP EVH !!!!!!!!!!!
I hear eddie in his soloing
14 thousand views and 5 dislikes. That’s quite the ratio.
You're a good bean, Michael. I'm glad I found this channel.
Eddie, is great and special.. although I've worked on a few of his songs. I always struggled with his lead. Out of respect for him, aside for "pretty woman"...l wouldn't play any of his music out. RIP Eddie. Kookie Jeanne
Meanwhile I have an answering machine message at the start of one of the tracks I wrote about my old man, on my last album, that he said: "Yeah. Fuck you and your goddamn answering machine." Wolf is having a rough time right now but that's only cuz he had it so good with a dad like that.
Wolfy played all instruments and vocals on this. All Wolfy and it’s awesome. The video is heart wrenching.
Not easy....
This was as you say, ‘The real stuff “. Just beautiful. 🙏❤️
This video explains why Wolf was in Van Halen. Eddie loved sharing his music with his son so much he even wanted him in his band. And I think that's awesome.
Couldn't agree more, he definitely had the talent for it even then! Like Phil Collins' son, Nick. Definitely a natural on the skins!
Eddie dedicated "316" to celebrate the arrival of his son Wolfgang into this world and 29 years later Wolf dedicated "Distance" to Eddie as he left this world. If that isn't the purest form of the love and bond between a father and son, I don't know what is.
Tearjerker. R.I.P. Eddie. Well done Wolfie.
I don’t play guitar 🎸 cuz of Eddie.... Too intimidated
David Rodriguez, I know him. Excellent guitar player, Star Wars fanatic and Delorean lover. I own a Delorean actually and I go to the same CBG. I actually did tear up watching this video yesterday for the first time. At the end when Eddie calls Wolfie...touching.
Recommendation Zack Bryan - old man

Your video hit all the right notes about what can you say about WVH's tribute to his dad. There is nothing to dissect... There is just a father and son who love each other deeply. I always thought EVH was born to play guitar and to be in Van Halen. After watching WVH's video... Its pretty clear he was born to be something far greater.... a good father.
Since you've put out a couple of fingerstyle reaction videos, pleaseee do a video Awakening by Maneli Jamal, it's both technically difficult and musically fascinating! I really appreciate these videos and I would love to hear your take on that song as someone who plays a lot of the genre but doesn't have a great understanding of theory :)
I dont think he pushed Wolf....Wolf justed loved what his Dad did.
Yup Wolf wanted that bond & had the love for the music & most of all his pops
Do ascend by the dooo he’s an amazing player
Could you please do Jennie Lena, changes. Or another cover of hers I'd rather go blind.
My first time seeing Wolf and his dad on stage together just so happened to be Father's Day, June 20, 2004. I asked my dad to come to the concert with me but he refused, he hated DLR and any mention of Van Halen was met with disgust. He didn't know better and I finally explained that I didn't care who sung, it was always about the music. I wasn't able to change his mind and I went to the show alone. 24 days later my dad was gone. I wish he could see this video, I think he'd understand...I hope they meet, I think they would get along.
Sorry for your loss. I'm sure Eddie appreciates every music lover. "It's always about the music, it's never about anything else." - EVH
My sincerest condolences.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Wolf's new song will help. 💔
That is a fucking tragedy 😔. So sorry brother. Open mind and open heart ❤ is what music is all about.
Just came across the Tyler Childers reacts video and immediately watched a whole handful of your videos and had to subscribe. Love the genuine reaction to the songs and how you can break it down and really appreciate it for what it is no matter the genre. With that being said “Faith” by Ghost opening guitar always catches my attention, I have no musical experience and would love to see what you think about it. amworlds.info/town/oqq_e6zb07V4upo/video.html
Thanks for posting man. Appreciate it.
Well said! We are never our parents as we always strive to be better but in the end are happy or content that we hopefully made them proud. I'm a father of 3 boys under 10 and my only wish in life is that they enjoy it and please do better than me! Remember where I needed help with and be better than the father before you! To all the dad's I believe this tribute can all make us reflect and take or kids for a hike or help push them to what makes them happy!! Great tribute and we will always miss one of music's true legends!! God speed brother!
You should react to Dead and Company Sugar Magnolia live from Folsom Field, Boulder, CO. 7/14/18. I think it’s one of dead and company’s best sugar magnolias and Mayer is at the top of his game
There are no words ...🎸💔
Wolf has the dna..I lost my pop years ago...tears 😢
amworlds.info/town/dKasf6iWxJWjtKI/video.html Please do Sean Rowe - Vincent Black Lightning. No one has reached to it. His performance in this clip is pretty awesome. The guitar becomes the speeding motorcycle as the engine revs and speeds away. I think it's pretty awesome. amworlds.info/town/dKasf6iWxJWjtKI/video.html
BOOM: amworlds.info/town/coOVlIaylb143Jo/video.html
Great song. He is not Eddie, he is Wolfgang... I am so happy that he’s not trying to be Van Halen.
@Greg Pickett Ed’s got a great voice
Oh he’s Van Halen
@Robert Manning damn right!
Kid has a crazy mix of his dad and his uncle in him, but that voice is incredible. Neither Alex or Eddie could sound like that on their best day.
I don't think he has to try.
This is such a great song had me in tears
Fantastic tribute to the rock in the pond. How ironic he(WVH) had this song in his bag and how it came together. This song is superb, not only as a tribute but it certainly showcases what we have kinda wondered... the son has serious skills in his own way... the way it should be.
Michael, please react to Luca Stricagnoli
It’s a great tune, incredibly touching. I could actually picture this being a later VH song with Sammy. I'm not suggesting that I'm just saying in an alternate universe I could see it. This song belongs to Eddie from his son.
Uh Santana plays PRS guitars and he sounds nothing like WVH.Its just a great trubute to hid dad.And Wolfie can really sing too!!
Hey mike on the subject of pushing your kids to music my dad never did and he let me find my own path I picked up the guitar originally at 12 but found it created friction now about 11 years later I’ve picked it up for a while now and it has created an inseparable bond between us so like you said them follow there own path. Love the videos you’ve helped so much in my journey through here and the course. Thank you
Your description of listening to EVH, reading interviews, reading books & watching concerts exactly describes me since the loss.
Again, I was really on the fence about posting this, but in the end, Wolf's the man, his dad changed my life, and if I can get even one more person to donate to Mr. Holland's Opus (I donated), or pick up the guitar, or fall in love with music, it's a good thing. Yup.
😎👍

In the blink of an eye I went from a punk kid idolizing Eddie in the early 80's to a 50 year old man now with more time behind me than ahead of me. This song and the videos Wolfie shared absolutely slayed me. It was the perfect tribute. And the voicemail at the end had me weeping. The bond those two had was so pure and so expressive. You dont see men often be so open with their emotions and the father/son dynmaic can be so damn hard. It just made me love Eddie all the more to see what a good father he was and what a kind thoughtful kid he helped raised. I highly recommend his interview with Howard Stern. Nothing but love and respect for Wolfie
Your first sentence=me, but a girl.
same guys.... I'm 51 . been listening to by for 40 years. I think we are at the beginning of a very long career for wolfie! all the best to him!
Me too
56 here...and you just put it all into words my thoughts exactly. Seems like yesterday blastin' new Van Halen releases every year they were released...all the way back to '78. And now we've somehow survived long enough to see second generation VH with Wolf.
I agree 100%, my feelings are exactly the same! I lost my dad to cancer in 2010 and not a day goes by that I don't think about him. I'm a 56 year old guitarist and have followed EVH ever since the release of the first VH album. Great song and video by Wolfie.
I can't count the numerous times I've seen the video and shared it far and wide. It gets me every time. Greatness from the next generation of Van Halen to carry the torch and legacy. Cheers Michael
Yes sir mr Palmisano, I think you covered it pretty well. being a father changes a man forever. forever. As you well know. Be strong Wolfgang, death is not the end, but the beginning.
I LOVED EVH MY ENTIRE LIFE!! WOLFIES SONG IS TRIPPLE PLATTINUM WORTHY!!!! WOLFIE IS A GENIUS IN EVERY FREAKING WAY. Wolfgang THE WORLDS HURTING FOR YOU WOLF.
That was his dads last voicemail to him😢😢
It was just one of the warm messages he left Wolf alwaysss telling him he was proud of him & loved him .. what a beautiful tribute song 🎶 & way to support his father’s charity in his honor
No, it wasn't.
No, he said in the interviews that Eddie always left deep, personal messages like that for him. It wasn’t the last one.
It was? Thats even sadder😥
Amazing!!! Thank you Wolfie for such a great tribute to your father. He will be missed.
Well, I am glad you did. Thank you not for just your methods but for your insight. I grew up with VH and Eddie was my hero!
This album will destroy all the hip hop shit the same way van halen destroyed disco!!!!
BTW I had heard the song but not seen the video before you posted this. As a parent of two, this really got me choked up and a little introspective of myself as a parent. Thanks for posting, Michael. I always enjoy your content
Wolf Gang's vocals sounds a lot like James Michael the lead singer from Sixx Am. I like his singing wow.
Yes exactly
def , the second he put out he sounds alot like James
I was pleasantly surprised by this song. It reminds of 90's/early 2000s alternative but in a good way. Long live Van Halen! WVH will/is making his dad proud.
Sky is the limit as far as I'm concerned. WVH has the gift, we just gotta hope and wait he moves mountains like his namesake did.
@DavidSixSixFive Exactly
I thought the same. It has a 90's groove, but that's ok. He doesn't have to be his dad.
THanks for posting...
Song took me back to the Our Lady Peace days
I hear a Lifehouse vibe, but heavier...
