Eddie Van Halen is introduced by Les Paul during Les Paul's 1988 cable/home video special. Eddie also performs a short guitar solo which includes "Cathedral" and an abridged version of "Hot For Teacher" with a band that includes Jan Hammer on "Keytar."
so easy tell that isnt AVH.

I think that his son said it best recently...he said his dad will be breathed in the same sentence along with Beethoven and Bach...

The only great since Eddie Van Halen is Slash! But by far Eddie was an innovator of all time....I am an 80s baby!
? Not even close. Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Satriani, Malmsteen, etc. They couldn't write songs as well as Eddie and Slash, but technically still great. I think Yngwie was definitely an innovator of Classical scales incorporated into metal. I do believe Randy Rhodes laid the foundation for that though.
Eddie uses techniques effectively in his songs. I think he is a great guitarist again.
Someone tell me what the little black box he’s talking about is, please. Lol
Xxxx❤️
Out of all the great guitar players in the world in all the bands Eddie Van Halen looked the coolest by far...
Possibly also the best bass playing I've ever heard!
@Joseph Nicoletti Aswesom. Thank you Joesph!
@gregory hoover Tony Levin. He is Peter Gabriel's go to bass player and a King Crimson member.
@Craig Yost What's his full name, I'd like to hear more... (and thank you).
Tony is awesome!
My question is who are the 649 idiots that hit the thumbs down button 😱 😳!! ?? WT.... 💥?

Fenomenal, que perda irreparável! RIP
Breathtaking
誰がなんと言おうと世界一だ❗ 異論は認めない❗
Shows up to a Les Paul show. Still plays his Frankenstrat/modified super Strat, lol. It would have been funny and apt to see him actually switch to a Gibson Les Paul for just this show, but hey, I guess that wouldn't be the pure Eddie we all know and love then. RIP to both legends. Hope they are both jamming out on a stage in the great beyond ;)
His a player !!!! 😀 Any mark... 😊 I was sixteen.. 😊 And I love this night.. 😊
Omg wow enough said
When he is goofing around with other instrumentalists like this, improvising, you get the sense of just how sharp he was. I mean dead on the beat with every note, perfect timing and taste and mix with the others, and masterful switch between rhythm and lead at any given millisecond.
The King paying tribute to the master. We are so lucky to have lived in the time of Les and Edward. Since Eddie's passing, I cry often when listening to archival stuff of ELVH. Some of it is sadness and a sense of loss but some I'd say is happiness and that I'm grateful he left the world with so much incredible music and technics. Likes of which I dont think will be repeated in my life time or perhaps forever.
So true ♥️🙏🏻🎸
@Lee Laurence No Lee I never met the man. I guess you find it odd that I got and still get emotional when a man I only knew through his music died. I must admit I wondered why his death struck me as it has. I guess its because his music has been an intrical part of my life for almost 40 years since I was 11. Through the good times and the bad Van Halen's music was a constant reminder of things an and will be better. The wide range of emotions I've gone through in the last couple of months aren't unique to just me. Millions seem to be mourning Edward in the same way. I feel tremendous sense of loss and I realize from your comments...it might be puzzling to you. Edward was one of a kind genus. Brilliant composer the likes of which the world has not seen perhaps since Mozart and Beethoven. Regardless of my reasons to share a message on here... its was coming from the heart. When I was 10 John Lennon died and I remember feeling sad knowing he was gone. I knew then it was a monumental loss. For me and for the world. I was so sad watching all the people holding candlelight vigils and crying for the loss they felt John. So to answer your snarky comment/Question... "You must have known him well, you cant get emotional for a man you never met... Right?" To that Lee I say. I guess can . Be well my friend. Happy Holidays and Happy New year.
You must have known him well to cry over him. I mean, you can't be so emotionally incontinent to cry over someone you never met ... right? Unless you knew them personally, there is little in life more pathetic than crying over dead celebrities.
The way he can dance while ripping the living sh*t out of his guitar is just awe Inspiring
RIP EDDIE..!
I wonder if thats Bob Kulick on bass guitar??
Went to check out, & yes, he's Levin. He looks a lot like Bob Kulick, tho.
I think he's Tony Levin.
Almost as good as Michael J Fox in Back To The Future.

Les Paul ‼️he's not just a guitar. ‼️A great to meet one of your heroes as Eddie is meeting one of his heroes here
Jan Hammer is subbing for George Costanza from Seinfeld
I think EVH was taken early because God wanted to take some guitar lessons.
PS and oh btw Jan Hammer? Damn - I'd love to hear those two guys trade off riffs more like Jan and Jeff Beck did back in the day
Tony Levin..bass god
@Horacio Ferro ...Yep, that is the stick man...Tony Levin on Bass. Also looks like another fellow band mate from the Gabriel days on drums.....Jerry Marotta
That's him, isn't it?
Watched this live and taped it via VHS. David Gilmore’s part was memorable as well...
WoW! Same here. I taped it on VHS and I would watch Eddie and Dave Gilmour over and over. Good times!
GOOD, the 80s with Eddy
Eddy the Great!
Eddie once said that it was his father who told him how to get rid of stage-fright "butterflies" on stage. Unfortunately for him it was booze and cigarettes.
Undeniably the best guitarist to ever live. RIP Eddie!
why can't this be sixteen minutes long............
EVH was an alien from another planet, i think planet claire. no human can play like this! wake up people! the truth is out there!!!

Awsome.
This performance will make people question their religious beliefs.
Being Eddie is a guitarist and a keyboardist, I can help but wonder if could have made that keytar rip?!?

Very original comment...did you think of it yourself ?
Eddie rocks as always
So amazing........Tony Levin and EVH what an amazing group with Jan
I saw this on Cinemax in 1988 when it aired. It was called Les Paul - He Changed The Music. Featured other guest musicians, including David Gilmour, Jan Hammer, Carly Simon, BB King, the Stray Cats, and others.
Godspeed Eddie
Wow thank you for this, wow wow 🤩 this is the year I was born this day!!!

6:34 We LOVE you Eddie
I wish he hadn't died.
This is all time legends celebrating their lifetime achievements. I've been listening to both of their music for years but never have I seen this beautiful show until tonight. This is just a little bit the blast of a party they will have in paradise🔥🎸 While we're here,we're all part of it
That keyboard sounds as out of place as a tuba in a bluegrass group.
Yeah.
Godspeed Eddie
Anyone else click on this expecting to see EVH playing a Les Paul?
@Chris Fulton Tf is a gibson double humbucker? This guitar has a sh-11 custom custom.
We'll, his guitar DOES have a Gibson double humbucker.
yup XD
Killer,killer!! Genius.
good to show Respect to your elders Heh especially the guys with little Black Boxes & the Yellow ones too, Wow your Best!***
Eddie with his wonderful smile!
Incredible group, would have loved an album of that!
When A God takes your stage for 7 minutes
Predating Liquid Tension Experiment.. Tony Levin is a Beast on the Bass, as is Jan hammer on the Keys. I always wonder what an all instrumental album by the great Edward Van Halen would have sounded like, and this gives me an idea, Even as it did 32 years ago, this performance STILL floors me today. RIP Edward Van Halen.
@Lucas Wickiser oh didn't know about that. Will do, thank you!
The Wild Life soundtrack is an all instrumental album by Eddie. Haven’t seen the movie, but the soundtrack is pretty cool! It’s nothing but Eddie playing guitar and keyboard. Just type in “Wild Life Soundtrack” and you’ll see it.
When A God takes your stage for 7 minutes
Annatar III yes!!!! ❤️
eddie is not death he is just having jazz guitar lesson
I don’t get it.
Eddie was the smily-est, truest, most humble, grateful, respectful & kindest of rock stars OR musicians & fucking incredibly amazing guitarist...NATURALLY. It ALL came so natural to him & his endearing literally loveable perma- smile. His death causes me actual grief & I never met him but did see Van Halen in 84, 85, 87, 90 & more I forget exactly from the Salt Palace to Irvine Meadows & a couple more totalling 11 concerts over the years. Eddie ALWAYS delivered ALWAYS shared his love for his fans... In front row once he kept smiling, joking & talking with us as he hardcore jammed & played to a sold out stadium audience during eruption. He made us feel like we were friends & in a very special Eddie way we were for that brief moment. I was so stunned by how he treated us like equals or maybe even a bit like he admired us as in he was such a cool regular person too. Eddie was the 1st person who taught me by pure example only that true success and Mastery at anything comes especially to those who are grateful for it, show it and share it with others in like fashion and manner etc.. He had his demons of course but we all do so who cares his good way outshined them as is supposed to be the case. He died surrounded by even his ex and all who loved him/his family. RIP Eddie VanHalen. God, youll truly be missed. Truly.
Eddie an nice guy, we miss u forever ed
Jan Hammer & Tony Levin
