Hosted by legendary comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews that showcases the colorful history of the automobile. Whether he’s exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest super car, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won’t get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car.
About Jay Leno: Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, lovable TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…it’s no wonder that Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

  • This was out in Oct, not sure but if i had to guess Jay somehow bought this car since filming. That combination Jay mentioned he had was the engine with the longest timing chain of any car motor. The Ford 427 SOHC V8. www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/427-SOHC-Ford-Full-Cutaway.jpg

  • The Shelby Cobra, the Dodge Viper, the Ford GT40 and the Chevrolet C8 Corvette. From 1962 to 2020, nearly 60 years...these are the only 4 American sports cars of any consequence. Jay hints at it here...on the one hand all the continuation Shelbys and the kit Shelbys have really detracted from the legacy of the all original cars. On the other hand, there is a heritage, a tradition and a performance excellence in every original Shelby Cobra that an eternity of Vipers, GT40s and C8 Corvettes will never approach. Carroll Shelby's formula approached an Occam's Razor of simplicity. Take a small, lightweight car...and then cram the most powerful engine available into it. And yet, here we are nearly 60 years later, and few manufacturers seem to understand that the simplest formula to performance success is still the best. Thank you so much for sharing this engineering icon, this automotive icon, this...AMERICAN icon with the littles, Jay.

  • Save yourself a sizable fortune and just buy a Superformance MK3.. Unless you’re a stickler for value or having an original car from the period, I don’t see why you’d want a 7 figure car like this, versus a Superformance that can do the same thing. What does an original competition Cobra have over a SPF car besides costing about $1,000,000 or more? Same goes for a period GT40, versus a Superformance GT40. I mean, you can get a “preowned” Superformance MK3, with around 1-2000ish miles, for about $80,000-85,000, if you want to have a Cobra that’s basically ready to go, and don’t want to wait for a SPF dealer to complete your car. Or, if you don’t mind a bit higher mine car, you can find them in the $60,000 range There’s a reason that they are the ones who built the GT40 in Ford versus Ferrari..They’re just that good at what they do. We need to support companies like them, because they’ll be the ones that continue to make “drivers cars”, after most automaker go hybrid or fully electric with their whole lineup..

I grew up in the La Mirada/Whittier area anf my aunt lived in Santa Fe Springs. And there was Mooneyes and a Topless bar, surrounded by oil fields.

  • The fireproof garage should have been built underground so as not to become a kiln, defeating it's purpose of sheltering the cars from the elements. I'm assuming with the 100 dollar bill experiment that it was secured in some way on the dash so it didn't fly off when accelerating.

  • Back in the late sixties they passed a law that limited cars to one horse power per one hundred pounds of weight. The insurance companies and safety organizations were worried because none of the muscle cars had steering and brakes to match their power. Guys would buy a muscle car with the optional big motor and standard brakes and just go out and crash, killing themselves and anybody with them, plus anybody they hit. Plain, skinny, bias tires solid steel dashes, no seat belts etc and you had the perfect coffin with wheels. But Detroit came up with a plan: They would build cars with big engines and just plain out lie about the horse power. The Corvettes, Chargers and Cobras all made a lot more then the hp advertised!

  • Jay, Jay Jay. This one is not correct. they NEVER came with white side pipes, this new rollbar seems to be a good inch to maybe inch and a half taller than the more or less useless original, they never came with dark wheels, just unfinished Halibrands. The entire trunk is wrong and so forth and so forth. Ask your buddy Bruce Meyer. He owned #3025 after I did, and I bought it from the original owner! I even have a picture from the day he brought it home to his house back in late 1965. (No, no cooling fans. They overheated in traffic in about 45 seconds but the minute you took off it would cool right back down)!
